Killers of the Flower Moon is a 2017 book by David Grann. The book explores the murders of Osage Native Americans in the 1920s after oil deposits were discovered underneath their land. The family of Mollie Burkhart became a primary target of these murders. As the death toll climbed, the FBI began investigating the case and uncovered the root of these crimes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I had not heard of these crimes against the Osage people and I feel that not many other people have either. It’s upsetting to me that I had never heard of this series of crimes as I feel it is an important part of American history. Not only because it explores the greed and racism that the Osage Native Americans had to face from White Americans, but also because these crimes essentially kickstarted the FBI.

Killers of the Flower Moon is being adapted into a movie directed by Martin Scorsese starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Ernest Burkhart and Robert De Niro as William Hale. As of right now, there is no release date.
