Sixth grade student opens fire at school

A female middle school student in Rigby, Ohio opened fire on her classmates on May 6, 2021. Police have reported that two students and one adult were injured. The adult was treated and released from Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. The two students had non-life-threatening injuries; both students will remain in the hospital at least for the night.

The young girl brought the handgun in her backpack and began firing around 9:00 am. She shot two of the injured people in the hallway before moving outside and injuring the third. A teacher was able to disarm the girl and held her until the police arrived.

As of right now, the motive for the shooting is unknown and the police department is investigating the act. The prosecuting attorney told reporters that his office will be filing charges, potentially three counts of attempted murder.
