Woman found locked in motel room

On May 4, 2021, the manager of a motel in Joplin, MO, found a woman padlocked in a room that was supposed to be vacant. The manager broke the padlock and entered the room. He found a disabled 61-year-old woman in the bed. The woman is a double amputee and stated that she and her daughter were hotel hopping because her daughter had taken her out of a nursing home in Miami, Oklahoma. The woman was not aware that she was locked in the room; she said that her daughter had been in the room with her earlier that day when she had fallen asleep. The woman does not know where her daughter is or where she might be. The woman was left in the room with no food or water and has since been moved to a Joplin hospital and placed on a 96-hour hold. The police are currently still attempting to find the daughter.
